About Young Aces Open

The Young Aces Open serves more than 200 4th and 5th graders from each of Richmond’s 26 public elementary schools.

The Open, which first started in 2010, is held annually every spring. The event has been named the largest of its kind on the Tennis Channel.

In partnership with Richmond Public Schools and supported by Michael and Elizabeth Fraizer, every elementary school in the city is provided with QuickStart Tennis (QST) curriculum, equipment and training.

QST incorporates a smaller court, lower nets and simpler rules. It is designed so that schools with limited space can incorporate tennis into their curriculum.

Reduced court dimensions also give children the opportunity to focus on their technique without having to tackle the demands of playing on a full-sized court.

The Young Aces Open provides an opportunity for elementary students to showcase their tennis and sportsmanship skills in a tournament setting.

Along with a mixed doubles team tournament, the participants rotate through various activity stations that incorporate education, nutrition and skills challenges.

The Young Aces Open would not be possible without the many volunteers who assist throughout the day. Volunteers will welcome participants, serve as court monitors, facilitate fun activity stations and assist with event management logistics. If you’re passionate about working with youth, love being outside and want to volunteer at a meaningful event, sign up to volunteer today!
