Thalhimer named title sponsor for the Club Challenge

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA, July 24, 2019 – Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer and the Richmond Tennis Association (RTA) are pleased to announce that Thalhimer is the new title sponsor of the Club Challenge beginning with the 2019 event scheduled for September 20 – 22 at the Westwood Club.

The Thalhimer Challenge is the largest tennis event of its kind in Virginia and continues to be an annual highlight within the Richmond tennis community. The tournament draws over 500 players and thousands of spectators representing 12 tennis clubs in the Richmond metro-area to compete over a 3-day period for the prestigious Thalhimer Cup. Participating clubs include acac, Burkwood, CCV, Dominion, Hermitage, Midlothian Athletic Club, Midlothian Tennis Club, Raintree, Salisbury, Westwood, Willow Oaks and Woodlake. Defending champion acac will attempt to repeat against strong competition.

The event format includes two men’s doubles matches, two women’s doubles matches, and one mixed doubles match at various NTRP rating levels from 3.0 up to 5.0 and above (the “Open” division), with a club earning two points for every match victory and one point for every loss. The format creates an interesting dynamic because teams’ lower rated players are just as important as higher rated ones, so there is an element of team spirit and camaraderie across the different levels.

“Thalhimer is thrilled to become the name sponsor for the most exciting event in the Richmond tennis community. Richmond, named one of “America’s Best Tennis Towns” by USTA, has a great tennis heritage as the home of tennis legend Arthur Ashe and the newly named Arthur Ashe Boulevard. RTA’s Thalhimer Challenge draws together thousands of participants and spectators. It’s competitive, full of camaraderie and fun to watch. Through our support of this event, Thalhimer also supports the work of the nonprofit Richmond Tennis Association whose goal is to foster the growth of tennis in Richmond for all, including wheelchair tennis, the underserved community, youth and adult programs,” said Lee Warfield, President & CEO of Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer.

“We are very thankful for the support provided by Anthem over the past 26 years and we are thrilled to begin a new partnership with Thalhimer,” said John DePew, RTA President.
