Richmonders Compete at National Team Intersectionals

IntersectionalsRichmond players enjoyed much success at the USTA National Team Intersectionals, the largest national women’s tennis tournament of the year.

In the 35s division, Rachel Gale, Leslie Butterworth and Margie Walsh led the Mid-Atlantic Section to its best-ever runner-up performance. The squad eliminated No. 2 seed Southern California 3-2 in the opening round and cruised past Pacific Northwest 4-1 in the semi-finals before losing a close 3-2 battle to Southern in the championship final.

The 45s squad posted a 3-1 overall record with 4-1 wins over No-2 seed Texas and New England and a 5-0 win over Midwest with the team’s only loss to finalist Northern California. Team members from Richmond were Kirsten Elim, Julie Ogborne, Mary Davis and Martha Condyles. Rachel Gale and Julie Ogborne served as team captains, respectively.
