About the Authors
Eric Perkins
Eric Perkins has enjoyed tennis for over 30 years as a competitive player, official, teaching pro, tournament director, and volunteer. Since moving to Richmond in 1996, Eric has served as President of the Richmond Tennis Association, an officer and director of the USTA/Mid-Atlantic Section, and as Chair of the USTA Tennis Rules and Regulations Committee. He is a business attorney in Richmond where he lives with his beautiful wife (Chrissie) and daughters (Alexandra and Madison).
John Packett
A native of Warsaw, Va., John Packett graduated from the University of Richmond in 1966 and spent four years in the U.S. Navy before joining the Richmond Times-Dispatch sports department. He worked there for nearly four decades and wrote about tennis most of that time. Packett covered local and state tournaments, as well as the U.S. Open and two Davis Cup finals before retiring in 2009.
Tom Hood
Tom Hood has been involved in tennis in the Richmond area for over 45 years. He grew up playing tennis at Bon Air Community Association, Salisbury Country Club, and Midlothian High School. Collegiately, he played on the University of Richmond and Virginia Tech tennis teams. Tom played the satellite circuit, two grand prix events, and was a teaching pro for a number of years. He is a member of the Richmond Tennis Association Board of Directors, the tournament director for the Davenport Richmond City Tennis Championships, and is vice president of the Virginia Tennis Association.
