2007 ROBIOUS RATED DOUBLES TOURNAMENT
Was Bigger & Better than Ever
June 2-8, 2007
by Sara James

There was a lot of lovin' going on at Robious ... Hopefully not on your side of the score!

An annual favorite of tourney players, the 2007 Rated Tournament at Robious Sports & Fitness did not disappoint players who competed in men's and women's doubles this past week.  Tournament Director Cris Robinson and his staff put a lot of effort into making it one of the  premier tennis events in Richmond.

With wine tastings from the Wine Cellar in the "big tent"....live music, a silent auction and plenty of good tennis, the club put on a week long tennis/party.  Many of the die-hard tennis players from all over the city turned up to either play or hang out.  Friday's Finals party -- catered by Brio Tuscan Grille with bluegrass music by A Good Natured Riot-- was primo.  "It was the best buffet I've ever had at a tennis event," claimed one very satisfied participant.

The entire week went without a glitch.  Even the weather cooperated, with thunderstorms holding off on Monday and Friday night just until after the last matches were finished. But it was hot (as you'll see from the photos!).

This year, the Susan G. Komen Foundation benefited from proceeds of many fantastic items donated to a Silent Auction.  Up for bid were dinners for two at Azzuros and Bonefish Grill; Spa Treatment and gift baskets; a Party for 20 at Bailey's Pub; a suite and party platters for 20 people at Colonial Downs; Tennis and Personal Training lessons and MUCH MUCH more.   Many thanks to the tournament sponsors for helping to make the event such a success, for donating auction items and prizes.

As one winner said when receiving his gift certificate-- "I EARNED this!"
