2007 tournament raised nearly $1,700 for VCU Massey Cancer Center.

Leslie
Dean loved tennis and made it a high priority in her life. She was a
member of Avalon Recreation Association. With her great
organizational skills and her giving way, Leslie volunteered her time and
served in many positions at Avalon over the years: club board
member, coordinator of boys tennis league, coordinator of ladies suburban
league tennis and captain of her own teams. In
2005-2006, Leslie served as
chairman of the Greater Richmond Suburban Ladies Tennis League, which consists
of 30 clubs with over 160 teams. She lost her battle with breast
cancer in June, 2006. |
On September 6-10, 2006, Avalon
hosted a tournament in her name to benefit VCU Massey Cancer Center. This
year marked the second year of the popular event.
Special
thanks to Carol Keesler of Virginia Food Service, who graciously donated
food for players and spectators.
Also,
Ronnie Adolf of Adolf Jewelers on Parham Road for sponsoring the
tournament in order to cut the expenses, allowing more money to be donated to
the Massey Cancer Center.
Other
contributors: Jim and Christi Dowd, Pat and Roberta Martin, Judy Turbeville,
Ann Strange, Holland Gravely, Steffani McGurn and Lynne Deane. Their
gifts ensured the tournament's success!
