The First Ever Battle of the Pros

Meet the Pros

Saturday, May 10th -- The weather threatened to conspire against all the hoopla and effort surrounding the Davenport City Tournament on Saturday. With heavy clouds and a sprinkle or two in the morning, people began to arrive bundled up to see the first ever Battle of the Pros.

2008 Davenport Tournament Battle of the Pros

Ten area pros had been previously paired up to compete against each other throughout the day for a grand prize trip to the Homestead. The intensity of play was a true indication of their quest for the top spot. Much to the delight of the hundreds of people that came out to spectate, the final determination came down to the final round and was won by a matter of one single game!

Carl Clark (Country Club of Virginia) and Mark Bernstine (Hermitage) won three of their four sets, winning 24 games in the process. Second place finishers, Lynn Bybee (Willow Oaks) and Cris Robinson (Robious) also won three of their sets, but only 23 games.  Sounds like a good reason for a rematch next year! See complete scores below.
