RTA ANNOUNCES 2006 JUNIOR TRAINING PROGRAMS
10/13/06

"It's really good to train together with boys and girls at similar levels,  and the off-court workouts help my game in the long run because I will become stronger and faster."

Allie Shulman, Deep Run H.S., National Training Team

For many years, the RTA has sponsored junior programs specially designed for juniors in the Richmond area who compete at sectional and national events.  The program allows the area's top juniors to train with each other under the direction of some of the leading teaching professionals in the area.  In recent years, the program has also included a physical fitness training component.

RTA NATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM

The National Training Program participants have been selected for 2006-07.  Courtside West is joining Raintree in hosting clinics this year.

The high school girls participating are:  Kristin Nimitz, Katie Blow, Elizabeth Addison, Jessica Armes and Allie Shulman.

In response to requests for high level training for younger players, the RTA works with the USTA to offer a Competitive Training Center program to tournament players under the age of 15 who have achieved a high ranking and have demonstrated a commitment to tennis.

This year, our program clinics will be run at Raintree and Robious under the direction of pros Eddie Parker and Cris Robinson.

The RTA supports both of these programs by providing a discount for RTA members in the RTA/CTC junior clinics and funding a portion of the High School National Training program.  Additionally, the RTA reimburses the National Training Team players for Mid-Atlantic Zonal participation and for the four major National Championships.
